Kurt Alakulppi

Lyric tenor Kurt Alakulppi has sung across the country in regional opera, oratorio, and concert performances. The Seattle native made his Carnegie Hall debut in Schubert’s MASS IN G with Mid America Productions, and his Lincoln Center debut as Eduardo in Rossini's LA CAMBIALE DI MATRIMONIO at Alice Tully Hall, returning there to sing Kid Conner in Victor Herbert's THE RED MILL with the Little Orchestra Society.  Opera News praised his Simon Stimson in the professional premiere of Ned Rorem’s OUR TOWN at Lake George Opera, and other opera highlights include Don Ottavio in DON GIOVANNI at Anchorage Opera, Valere in Mechem’s TARTUFFE at West Bay Opera, and Pedrillo in Mozart’s DIE ENTFUHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL at Skylight Opera. Concert and oratorio performances include Handel's MESSIAH and Eisenstein in DIE FLEDERMAUS with the Seattle Symphony, Britten's WAR REQUIEM, Haydn's CREATION and Beethoven's MASS IN C all with the Queens College Choral Society, Bach's WEIHNACHT'S ORATORIUM and Mendelssohn's ELIJAH with the Walla Walla Symphony, Rachmaninoff's VESPERS with the Riverside Choral Society, Britten's GLORIANNA DANCES with New York's Cerddorian, and the Mozart REQUIEM at the Tilles Center and Hudson Valley Opera.

Kurt earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Vocal Performance and Editorial Journalism from the University of Washington. He studied privately for 10 years with Ellen Faull Gordon, and continues vocal study today with Dr. Robert C. White Jr. Alakulppi has maintained a private voice teaching studio in New York since 2002, and joined the Juilliard evening division faculty in 2017. Last season he was a clinician at Juilliard Unveiled, a master teacher at the NYU 2018 Classical Voice Intensive, and a presenter at the National Association of Teacher's of Singing Conference in New York.
